It's so funny to see the looks on their faces as they deliver yet another package from Japan with that same question, "Exactly what are you doing?". No, I didn't bolster the economy of Japan with this new- found hobby, but I'm sure that I was a big help!
Plus, there was the added benefit that I could keep up my obsession with manga. What better excuse than "I really need to read these as they help me read kanji, and understand the Japanese psyche!".
So, I studied from books, from my Ipod, from anything that would help me to pass the test. I slept with kanji lists...my husband was perpetually confused as he tried to understand what I was saying...my Mom and I got to speak in Japanese so that we could pass secret messages in front of my dad and my hubby! I'm also sure that I helped Loreal as my hair was always turning gray after one of my study binges.
